Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

We have been having Vacation Bible School this week at our church. It has been lots of fun. We are teaching the kids about the book of Daniel. I was asked to make cupcakes on the night we studied the lion's den, and knew just what I wanted to do.


When I was a kid my Mom always made ice cream cone cupcakes for school events. They are great because they make much less mess for the kids. So I got some cake cones and a cake mix and I was ready to go.

First you make your cake mix as directed.  Then you begin filling the cones with batter.  I filled them just to the top ridge of the cones.

As you fill them you simply stand them in a pan.  Be careful they turn over easily.  Then you bake them.  It takes about 15 minutes longer than regular cupcakes.  The toothpick test works well with this.

They bake up well.  I had several people ask me if the cones burn or have trouble, but just so you have no doubts here is one standing alone. 

Don't they look cute?  I haven't even frosted them yet.  Well, tonight was the lions den story so my  kids and I decorated the cupcakes like lions.  I let them come up with the design and I think they did a great job.  What do you think?

An experiment in room decor

When the boys wanted to redo their room. I asked them what style they wanted.  I never would have guessed they would answer Science.  Science?!?!?  Seriously?  What kid wants a Science room?....   I spent tons and tons of time trying to figure out exactly which direction to go. 

 I suggested outer space and was informed that wasn't all there is to science.  Then I suggested dinosaurs and they said NO not just dinosaurs either.  Soooooo we came up with a

combination of all of the above.  I found lots of awesome posters that would be fun.  This was one of my favorites.  It was perfect for their door.  :)

SCIENCE ROOM.

We have your basic bunk beds, but my Mother in law made the boys some amazing quilts for each of the boys.  Complete with their names.

While visiting the insectorium in New Orleans We found these adorable name pages and they worked out just great.

Naturally Albert Einstein NEEDED to have a place in our science room so here it is...     I picked my favorite Einstein quote and broke out my Cricut and vinyl... and now you have it.

  Well, maybe not my most favorite Einstein quote.  That would have to be... 

Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.  

 I didn't think that was quite what I was going for in their room though.  LOL 

I have been working on having a verse in every room of the house and I couldn't think of anything better than Genesis 1:1.  I thought it would be a great reminder to the boys that no matter what God is still the creator and designer of our universe. 

I know I previously posted about the light fixture, but I just love it.  So one more... ok three more pictures of how that all come out.  Did I mention I just love the way this light fixture worked out?  

The boys each have matching bookshelves to store all their books, and junk.  I used their buggy names to label each.  They love having their own space, and this defiantly gives them each a place for their stuff.

I love posters.com.  I found all of these posters and lots more.  If only we had more wall space.  I of course had to add some vinyl just because I could.  Haha.   I thought that Stand back, I'm going to try Science was the perfect finishing touch.  Thanks for hanging in there with me for all the details of this room.  The boys love it and that is totally what I was hoping for.  So I guess we chalk this up to a success.  :)

A longhorn Locker Room for my Moose

After redoing Holden's bedroom I decided we needed to do his bathroom too. My husband always love when that happens. :) I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.
First the door-







Then we needed a new sink. This tiny bathroom had a HUGE vanity so we opted for a pedestal sink.





Of course since it is "Moose's Locker Room" we had to add some football touches. :) I had this old helmet I bought at a garage sale for $3.00. It was blue and red, but with some spray paint and a little vinyl I think it turned out AWESOME!!!! Yes I am pretty pleased with myself, but nothing compared to Holden who now thinks I can move mountains. LOL



The final touch was a "locker". My hubby and I put our heads together and he got out all his magic tools and this is what we came up with. I of course supplied the paint and vinyl. ;)







The final touch was some encouraging words from a coach. Our high school football team
(love those Permian Panthers) have these 16 Steps of a Champion on the way into their locker room. I loved them and thought they needed to be included in our locker room too.

I loved how it all turned out, and Holden was just thrilled. So this is a home makeover success. :)

It was FrAmEd!

I am working on redoing my boys room. It is FINALLY time to redecorate Mikey and Sam's room. They are very excited and when I asked them what theme they wanted to go with they both answered Science. HMMMMM... I suggested doing a space theme, but they were quick to inform me Science was more than space. Then I am sure you could hear crickets chirp. What on Earth do you do with that!?!?



Well, fast forward a few months and I finally have a direction KINDA. It will still have an awful lot of space stuff, but I have come up with some other aspects of science to include.



Ok now that I said all that, here is the first of several projects that went along with that. I have lots of cool posters to frame. I really didn't want to spend a small fortune on frames, but I do want them to stay on the wall without constantly falling. A friend suggested using small trim molding to make my own "frames" I thought this sounded like a pretty good plan. I was at the local craft store and came across these balsa wood pieces. I thought they would work perfectly. So I painted them black and nailed them to the wall. I think it turned out pretty good.

`A new room for Holden

Okay I know I am a bad mom. I started working on Holden's room about a year ago. We had a great plan. I just wasn't too sure how to execute it. hmmm. So his room remained unfinished for quite a while. Well fast forward a few months. I got my cricut and yet I still wasn't sure what to do with his room. Through some research, I found sure cuts a lot software to go along with my cricut. Now I could cut anything with my cricut if I could turn it into a scal file. So I made a few fun football helmets for his wall, and did a great makeover on his celling fan. I just love this software!!!!

I have also decided to include scripture in each of the rooms of my house so here is Holden's verse.
