Stowe Feed Lot

Ok this project started simply enough... with a board.  Just a leftover board.  I wanted to doone of those cool paint techniques on a dresser turned buffet.  I will show it to yall later when I finally get it finished.  I was waaaay to chicken to start on the buffet, so I figured I would play with an extra piece of wood first. 

So away we go.  I used a chocolate brown craft paint and watered it down a bit.  It started to look just like I hoped.  I just wanted a very very uneven coat.

Then I added a turqoise blue watered down paint on top.  I let some of the brown show through.

Is still really wanted a little more of the brown to show.  I saw on pinterest somewhere a tutuorial that suggested using masking tape.  So I decided to give it a try.  It did help to even it out a bit better.

You can see at the top.  It even  took it all the way down to the wood.  I love the added interest. 

So then I ended up with this cool looking piece of wood.  I couldn't just let it go at that.  Soooo I decided to make a sign for my kitchen.  Just a Sandie's kitchen or Mom's kitchen wouldn't quite get it.  Since I live in the great state of Texas, I decided on a feed lot sign.  I haven't ever seen one, but since I have three boys it is totally appropriate.  So I googled cow images and came up with the cutest cow ever.  So I drew it on and here it is in progress. He is cute isn't he???  I  happen to love love love cows, so he was just what I wanted.

Once I finished painting him, (Well, I didn't have any white paint. So we can pretend it's all painted right????  Who would have thought?  No white?!?!?  Crazy huh?) I need to do the lettering.  I hate my handwritting, so my handy dandy Cricut to the rescue.  I cut out the letters, and traced around them. 

Then I just painted them in and outlined them in black.  I love the finished product.  My poor buddy got about 100 text pictures during this project, but I just loved it more and more.  So here is the finished sign.

So all that was left was to hang it on the wall.  It looks just perfect in it's new home.

A chair with a little MOJO!!!!

Halloween always means it's time again for the Permian High (yes that Friday Night Lights School) Orchestra's Spooktacular.  They have a fun concert that the kids all dress up for, have raffles and a silent auction.  For the last three years my niece has been a part of their orchestra and I have always made something to donate.  This year my sister had this cool chair she wanted to redo for the auction.  She didn't know what to do exactly so she started with painting it in black and white.  Then she dropped it off at my house.  Of course I wasn't smart enough to take a real before picture.  So here is the beginning picture.  lol

Our mascot is the panther so some paw prints were in order.  I just love using vinyl and my cricut.  It doesn't get much easier.  ;)  I just cut them out and started placing them around the seat.  The I cut a panther and the word Mojo for the backrest.  I think the front looked pretty cool. 

Now that the front looked so good the back needed a little love.  So I went ahead and cut Permian Panthers to go across the back. 

It was a hit at the auction.  I was glad they liked it.  We helped earn a little extra for the orchestra.  It was a win win right??

Praying in Subway Art

When we redid the Kitchen I knew I wanted to include some subway art. As I put the second coat of black on the end of the cabinets I knew it needed prayers in vinyl. I could see it all in my head. Well, I finally got the time to make it happen. So here are some of my favorite meal time prayers.

First is the prayer we use all of the time. I didn't really know that other people didn't always use this prayer until I was about 13. It goes...

Third is a prayer I found when I googled meal time prayers and loved. I am from German descent and thought it was awesome they had translated it in German also. So here it is in English, then German...

I love the way they all look together I had a great time putting it all together. I hope you like it half as much as I do.

Family meals have always been a part of my life.  I remember very few times we didn't eat dinner all together around our dinner table growing up, and am doing my best to make sure my boys have that same experience.  Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day.

Birthday gifts for some of my favorite girly girls

I had four birthday parties to go to this weekend.  They were for some of my favorite girls on the planet.  I wanted to make something special for them. 

First up is Ava.  She was turning two whole years old.  She is the cutie pie I keep during the day, and her parents recently redecorated her room in Mickey Mouse.  Her latest obsession.  I have had these two canvas ideas for her room and I couldn't decide which one I wanted to do.  So I did both.

I used my cricut to cut out all the characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Audrey is a sweet girl in my Sunday school class.  She turned 10 this weekend.

Ashley was turning 13 and I thought she might appreciate something more grown upish.  :)

We also had Esteban who was turning four.  My darling boys insisted he NEEDED a football for his birthday.  So I obliged.  All in all they were all pleased with their gifts, and I had a great time making them.

Last day of school

Woo Hoo!!!! We made it. The last morning we had to get up early for school!!!! I am so ready to sleep in. The boys were in a great mood this morning. I sent them out the door with homemade goodies, movies, and teacher gifts. I just thought my crafty friends might like to check them out.




I etched mugs for each teacher with their last name. (Wow there are a LOT of letters in those five names) Then I added tissue paper and filled each mug with candy. The tissue paper was hopefully to help keep my kids from being harassed about sharing the candy for their teachers. LOL

A cover for my Cricut

West Texas is in my blood there is no where else I want to live, BUT spring in West TX is just your basic dust bowl. This year has been much worse than ever before, so when I cleaned yet another layer of dirt off my machine, I decided a cover was in order.
I googled dust cover for cricut and found this free pattern complete with video. I was thrilled to find such an easy project even though I am just a beginer at sewing. Here is the link:

Lighting fixture

I ordered a light fixture for the boys room off of EBAY and couldn't have been more excited... well, until it arrived. It was MUCH smaller that I expected. I loved it, but wasn't so sure how well it would work. My suspicions were confirmed whey my hubby took down the ceiling fan and the hole in the ceiling was larger than the fixture. HMMMMM Well, he told me not to worry he could take care of the extra space.










He did manage to cover most of the hole, but I still had the problem of the silver and crack showing around the edge of the fixture. Vinyl to the rescue. I found a cute sprocket like shape to cut in various sizes and colors.










So after giving my cricut a quick workout, I had a cute solution that I loved almost as much as my boys did. :)




















I had a few sprockets left over and decided to decorate the light switch too. :)
