I hate to put out patriotic stuff already because it hangs out until the 4th of July. I need an anytime wreath. I had pinned several that I liked now I just need to make it my own. I went to hunt for ribbons that I would like. After a quick trip to Hobby Lobby this is what I came home with. I wanted leopard print ribbon, but didn't find anything that I liked, however I found a peacock ribbon I LOVED. So with just a little tweaking I found some great options.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0VBogNZJWgN-ooNHqG2nO_ILbBA-KvIdSYEZ145v2T1qkkcvJvx2HHxRmmM0RESZWHY9rVFoSC3JJtZ2oExbGs20AV3b2zjQJDqBu-cXpOdhLG3vVI6efcnaFrz7UmekN4rcj94Lfiix-/s1600/supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0VBogNZJWgN-ooNHqG2nO_ILbBA-KvIdSYEZ145v2T1qkkcvJvx2HHxRmmM0RESZWHY9rVFoSC3JJtZ2oExbGs20AV3b2zjQJDqBu-cXpOdhLG3vVI6efcnaFrz7UmekN4rcj94Lfiix-/s320/supplies.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I started out by spray painting the green wire wreath black. I didn't want it to show anywhere. Then I grabbed my deco mesh and went to work. I will warn you, I had to go back to get a second one. My wreath is HUGE. I didn't realize how big it would end up. The deco mesh was fun to work with. This was the first time I used it and I am in love. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFCDL-bZo0Kfh5vtzcuS2wget_9uEtU1s_nTkRPinvxdeSHcbagZO93ECR16N_jkzWghW4_OF2AXGHhBcm4UMwDUOvkwc9nhlPbeNI2wlfh0Eu2DIvnY1dAZvcNHqSaxm0gqIdpWdwGmts/s1600/start+w+deco+mesh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFCDL-bZo0Kfh5vtzcuS2wget_9uEtU1s_nTkRPinvxdeSHcbagZO93ECR16N_jkzWghW4_OF2AXGHhBcm4UMwDUOvkwc9nhlPbeNI2wlfh0Eu2DIvnY1dAZvcNHqSaxm0gqIdpWdwGmts/s320/start+w+deco+mesh.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
It still looks pretty thin, but don't worry it fills in nicely when you add the ribbons. Once I got the mesh finished I started weaving the other ribbons in. First the gold, then the peacock. I tried the blue, but it was just too overpowering. I didn't like the results. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiix9pKud909Jg4ne_SujEKNW_IQGJ98piV4P6EZcD9QGgt4pAzVoL4D8t7ppXllhzXmKpUKdGiCJfbVG1oEM1LUvjmo-GJJnNu9WijFlHI2sBzeuxljTDsum9FVYYBEx8wjuNbWwUvhzOy/s1600/weave+in+gold.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiix9pKud909Jg4ne_SujEKNW_IQGJ98piV4P6EZcD9QGgt4pAzVoL4D8t7ppXllhzXmKpUKdGiCJfbVG1oEM1LUvjmo-GJJnNu9WijFlHI2sBzeuxljTDsum9FVYYBEx8wjuNbWwUvhzOy/s320/weave+in+gold.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
So when I added the ribbons in, I decided I would add a wooden letter S in the center for some added interest. I didn't really want it to be plain. I also spray painted it black then I added glitter. It came out awesome. I went ahead and hung it out, but wasn't quite satisfied. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixVBYhHJ7tiICqCkKMlMiWFk34cWGH7R6J5XTdO7coEp2VWYnziIui_n9Gm_NwGW9GeuL-yASZnaXoaZCbhTFn7eXS13LSfJ13BUsB0pSjRxjDhiZWHIWTd9PxAdx6JTNBXzcP6Qo4yDoS/s1600/wreath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixVBYhHJ7tiICqCkKMlMiWFk34cWGH7R6J5XTdO7coEp2VWYnziIui_n9Gm_NwGW9GeuL-yASZnaXoaZCbhTFn7eXS13LSfJ13BUsB0pSjRxjDhiZWHIWTd9PxAdx6JTNBXzcP6Qo4yDoS/s320/wreath.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
It looks pretty, but it is pretty dark. I wanted to add the blue in again, but not all over. So I made small bows and added them in. I am in love with the final results. <br />
<br />

Since I am just learning to sew don't look too closely. LOL These were super easy because they are simply t-shirts cut off to make skirts. <br />
I took two Hobby Lobby t-shirts that were about two sizes too large, and simply cut them off under the arms. This is awesome because it gives you a perfect bottom seam to start with. Then you just size it to your kiddo. Leave a little extra length for the waistband. I left about 1in because my elastic was pretty thin. Then I embellished them with some Rick-rack and cut out felt letters. It was a quick project. I finished them both in just a couple of hours even with sewing the letters by hand. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7ZAzbYCK7fQaDMvaXwDZ4YHkGR3DB0_OG8cA1O8OZt7q7PDFqpmG1UxNRM12zggZh25ujTcavTzAU-SDQJVaZAdbwj00YTbGoPQXZJRZBg28rFJ8wfZh5xpCHdGqa3i7VAcmtznPyAFN8/s1600/skirts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7ZAzbYCK7fQaDMvaXwDZ4YHkGR3DB0_OG8cA1O8OZt7q7PDFqpmG1UxNRM12zggZh25ujTcavTzAU-SDQJVaZAdbwj00YTbGoPQXZJRZBg28rFJ8wfZh5xpCHdGqa3i7VAcmtznPyAFN8/s640/skirts.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />

I picked up some old candlesticks at a garage sale this fall, and knew just what I wanted to do with them. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEwO-4mVfTFe2Z60YGfrWam0dqXSsPseqV51Zm7bZRIUXpi_9GrvB-sAqbN22LItWpof6Q6hNrx9ykRf5pyhNXyte8mzAKJUGn5R4OmLosIxCrInXZJIRkd4fHOC0SvERbxYL0BUOlFo_V/s1600/sticks+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEwO-4mVfTFe2Z60YGfrWam0dqXSsPseqV51Zm7bZRIUXpi_9GrvB-sAqbN22LItWpof6Q6hNrx9ykRf5pyhNXyte8mzAKJUGn5R4OmLosIxCrInXZJIRkd4fHOC0SvERbxYL0BUOlFo_V/s320/sticks+before.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><br />
They were crying out for some of my handy dandy black spray paint. I love spray paint. There is just something about using it that makes my feel like a ninja! <br />
<br />
So I sprayed the candlesticks and the lids to some old jars I had. I only wanted three so when I glued the jars on I also glued together the two matching candlesticks. I loved the extra height. It adds some extra drama. I also chose to use different shape and sized jars. (Since I started making jam my Dad has made sure to save every jar he gets his hands on.) <br />
<br />
After I got them all put together, I thought they needed something so I added a little ribbon to make them look more finished. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrm1pM40nKJ6BI8yqEn0gxp3r7a0tDuVa2RKn9j8TGOqulfuS4GRzwxGJLfN7Ldpl5wSksGn3ipe8yn6sWngqdkKtrehLFMC9tpKJlEfbGzwVN9l47x1Hr2JDfgLtWZgy9v4oYfQxsqUGM/s1600/finished+jars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrm1pM40nKJ6BI8yqEn0gxp3r7a0tDuVa2RKn9j8TGOqulfuS4GRzwxGJLfN7Ldpl5wSksGn3ipe8yn6sWngqdkKtrehLFMC9tpKJlEfbGzwVN9l47x1Hr2JDfgLtWZgy9v4oYfQxsqUGM/s320/finished+jars.jpg" width="213" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMRYLXMX9CbGnM0BTA6AgPo06mt1Ca9Nayg75QnITRfFYmT6VyBzs7yGpyyLuPUbWh4mSlS7lrMXeqD-4Ni3lUJjTrx5zlaV2hlob55KmU7pfVjpEPmjAOW63MA5DrtL64ZuEuG983LoNM/s1600/felt+placemat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMRYLXMX9CbGnM0BTA6AgPo06mt1Ca9Nayg75QnITRfFYmT6VyBzs7yGpyyLuPUbWh4mSlS7lrMXeqD-4Ni3lUJjTrx5zlaV2hlob55KmU7pfVjpEPmjAOW63MA5DrtL64ZuEuG983LoNM/s200/felt+placemat.jpg" width="150" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I found this cool felt rose place mat at dollar tree and thought it was too cute. I love how it pops on my black buffet top. <br />
<br />
<br />
I may add finial pieces later, but I like them just the way they are. They look so cool on my new funky buffet. <br />

I need heeeeellllppppWe redid our bathroom this summer. Well, my hubby did a wonderful job of tiling it for me. Then I painted all the walls. Somehow I have become the designated painter in our house. I really don't like to paint, BUT the results are very rewarding. I love the way it all has turned out, but I can not figure out what to put on the walls. I have had bathrooms decorated for little kids and now I don't know what to do with a more grown up version. I have four canvas waiting for inspiration to hit. I hope maybe y'all could help. Any brilliant ideas? I guess I should show you what we have to work with. First we tore out the old floor.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijndKAlaiIo4TRtILnHxwX0y31eK7CIAWhCld1u0Wv8FfIovg9bCLIjPJJwGz69ZYvuOeAlS4wwPyEpddr9xkUYz8zYW227WAYSilD79-dvpeCi9Zrg8d-4zQO3ynMoMfgQN3tX9NWdfcZ/s1600/img_0575.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijndKAlaiIo4TRtILnHxwX0y31eK7CIAWhCld1u0Wv8FfIovg9bCLIjPJJwGz69ZYvuOeAlS4wwPyEpddr9xkUYz8zYW227WAYSilD79-dvpeCi9Zrg8d-4zQO3ynMoMfgQN3tX9NWdfcZ/s320/img_0575.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The help was enthusiastic anyway. Our old vinyl tiles came up pretty easy. Then we took the shower apart, and of course found some water damage on the wall. No project ever goes without surprises. So my hubby ripped it out and put up some new sheet rock. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">What a mess!!!!! We had to make more than a few trips to Lowe's and my son was sick of waiting on us to decide so he found a comfy spot to read. OH MY!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Once the everything was back together we got busy add the tile. I loved the way it was turning out. The glass mosaics I picked out were a pain in the neck, but turned out perfect. I love the added detail they provided. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1T6kNqPcshsScHnqhPCdhKyTs7IXsQMs1AHbWYUdJHTj6uP123Fvh89_21bvtLDk7sI5buEC9WpoLJPpBx8FGH1jLeg_Jgp3tAc87O0PhfTX9eBlLf0hmh0nIQ7JHx0hN1BhKYJ_IApJu/s1600/tile+up+ready+for+grout.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1T6kNqPcshsScHnqhPCdhKyTs7IXsQMs1AHbWYUdJHTj6uP123Fvh89_21bvtLDk7sI5buEC9WpoLJPpBx8FGH1jLeg_Jgp3tAc87O0PhfTX9eBlLf0hmh0nIQ7JHx0hN1BhKYJ_IApJu/s320/tile+up+ready+for+grout.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">All that was left is to add the grout. We choose a sand color similar to the tile. In hind site I would have chosen a darker color. It is HARD to keep clean. Oh well, live and learn right???</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I know the color is very different in these two pics. It is because it was different times during the day. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The floor was a bit simpler because it was just plain tile. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">See how light in color the grout is. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I love the shower curtain I found. It is so pretty. Living in a house with all guys it's hard to do pretty without complaints. I had to live with it for a few weeks before I could actually pronounce it finished. I am in love with it though. It is better than I hoped it would be. I took a dresser that we got at a garage sale and sanded it down. As usual I didn't take pictures before. I am so bad about just jumping into a project. I think about blogging it later. Sorry. I painted the top high gloss black. Then took the drawers over to my sisters where my sister, niece and I got busy. We each painted different drawers and I think I love the memories we made as much as the finished product. :)<br />
Without further ado...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">MY NEW BUFFET</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I just love all the color!!! It is so fun. These drawers were perfect for this kind of a project, and I found all the cool glass knobs and handles at Hobby Lobby. I just love my new addition to the kitchen, and all the extra storage it provides! I have to include just one more pic. Mostly to show off that it is snowing out here in West Texas this morning. We need the moisture soooo much. <span style="font-size: x-large;">Thank you Lord!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div>Sandiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14411313005117574279noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4565173078306590287.post-299025421207689892012-01-03T10:15:00.017-06:002012-01-09T21:19:39.878-06:00A new look for the new yearI have been wanting to do something new in my living room. I have spent hours and hours looking for what to do. One day while I was cruising Pinterest I found the coolest looking wall. They used pallet boards and it created the neatest rustic looking wall. I knew it was the plan. I have an entire board on Pinterest called <a href="http://pinterest.com/simsamsue/pallet-projects/"> pallet-projects</a>. It has a couple of the walls I used for inspiration, and lots of other cool projects you could use. The hard part now was enlisting the hubby. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily he agreed. I am pretty sure that was the last pallet project he will agree so easily too. That wood is HARD to take apart. He spent more time tearing up pallets than putting them on the wall. Poor guy.<br />
<br />
Ok now is the point I really wish I had taken a before shot. I never remember to do that. We just jump in there. Our living room used to be a brown color, and while Clint was busy tearing up pallets I got busy painting. Then the boards could go up. I was so excited. Clint was pretty sure I had lost my mind AGAIN. He might be right, but don't tell him. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div> He started and said, "Is this what you wanted?" I said, "Yep" That is exactly it. He just looked at me like I was nuts. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aNndj2bQD1s/TwMV0UKv88I/AAAAAAAAAfg/aFb1MhfE2fE/s1600/getting+started.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aNndj2bQD1s/TwMV0UKv88I/AAAAAAAAAfg/aFb1MhfE2fE/s320/getting+started.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So he added a few more and asked, "Is this what you wanted????" I said, "Yes it really is."</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-havxoJYKdCA/TwMV3xJbXSI/AAAAAAAAAfo/S_mEoR38TvI/s1600/little+higher.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-havxoJYKdCA/TwMV3xJbXSI/AAAAAAAAAfo/S_mEoR38TvI/s320/little+higher.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God bless him he just kept plugging along on it, thinking the whole time I lost my mind. He finally made it to the last piece and decided it wasn't so bad after all. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bempb_aDIn4/TwMaZI7uknI/AAAAAAAAAf0/706FXWXNGA0/s1600/final+piece.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bempb_aDIn4/TwMaZI7uknI/AAAAAAAAAf0/706FXWXNGA0/s320/final+piece.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Just a leftover board. I wanted to doone of those cool paint techniques on a dresser turned buffet. I will show it to yall later when I finally get it finished. I was waaaay to chicken to start on the buffet, so I figured I would play with an extra piece of wood first. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYiMY7QeGB-HZeILZ9EdimJOdTc-2-fsTRzsMFFuGfABeXqNiAe1fr8Vy_EvL-xli05fDaGnEy123Bzyoo61pm3H4KurUZlAheK9Fl1W_Yps3jXocxHNslV1PjQP8KomX5ViQltX5ub3cH/s1600/board+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYiMY7QeGB-HZeILZ9EdimJOdTc-2-fsTRzsMFFuGfABeXqNiAe1fr8Vy_EvL-xli05fDaGnEy123Bzyoo61pm3H4KurUZlAheK9Fl1W_Yps3jXocxHNslV1PjQP8KomX5ViQltX5ub3cH/s320/board+before.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>So away we go. I used a chocolate brown craft paint and watered it down a bit. It started to look just like I hoped. I just wanted a very very uneven coat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSfNE26RacRMXuRPUSAp5qOsse_CeLQYVWirNyVW3yw9MG2jHZGJL9UO9AsMWnUjzvSktCyGi3DSclXhnXs09-n8Ud0BQfZdhtfXElbDcbhIp1kl2ViCHZwnzFBcjUL6yqnMtNr1KQPDSO/s1600/brown+board.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSfNE26RacRMXuRPUSAp5qOsse_CeLQYVWirNyVW3yw9MG2jHZGJL9UO9AsMWnUjzvSktCyGi3DSclXhnXs09-n8Ud0BQfZdhtfXElbDcbhIp1kl2ViCHZwnzFBcjUL6yqnMtNr1KQPDSO/s320/brown+board.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then I added a turqoise blue watered down paint on top. I let some of the brown show through.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFWaqIYshf0-eRZHDxkkCcY_WhdzMkABK1oAA3UgAP3cguE-HOzRU5J6mZPDXcKZC2rhz5r2yAKPWkqkYb8L0VgIfkoRtH0NcSyTqkNCMPxd2v3KLDMSi6_prLpDrPODcgNqQWmEk-yOsQ/s1600/during.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFWaqIYshf0-eRZHDxkkCcY_WhdzMkABK1oAA3UgAP3cguE-HOzRU5J6mZPDXcKZC2rhz5r2yAKPWkqkYb8L0VgIfkoRtH0NcSyTqkNCMPxd2v3KLDMSi6_prLpDrPODcgNqQWmEk-yOsQ/s320/during.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Is still really wanted a little more of the brown to show. I saw on pinterest somewhere a tutuorial that suggested using masking tape. So I decided to give it a try. It did help to even it out a bit better.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAJohecGmN7xclwSTnB5thqXOrRH4n1RTJ3BeVt386lSQjytGHC3w4h3eQ_8x9EypQj2XOci1U-WLxOL4r-nzAdFA4dbYJFHGKiEKQMRkJlArF8bYtnNZl-hNuyO2f-FiqdasoeoxNXtVV/s1600/tape+it.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAJohecGmN7xclwSTnB5thqXOrRH4n1RTJ3BeVt386lSQjytGHC3w4h3eQ_8x9EypQj2XOci1U-WLxOL4r-nzAdFA4dbYJFHGKiEKQMRkJlArF8bYtnNZl-hNuyO2f-FiqdasoeoxNXtVV/s320/tape+it.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
You can see at the top. It even took it all the way down to the wood. I love the added interest. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIUCJPNGVCvqPjoy3RjLJJ3XZGm2n5AbLWrCWObJ19EmT3ewTbE1Ppy8JBinuA1tPtM4TbEmYCvHG0kT_UR7lt36Ufy5LYfILTaz8JHvhyphenhyphen3-edqJjSjwOnDYNiPfrGzsU8l3-lXI2yMhWD/s1600/board+with+treatment.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIUCJPNGVCvqPjoy3RjLJJ3XZGm2n5AbLWrCWObJ19EmT3ewTbE1Ppy8JBinuA1tPtM4TbEmYCvHG0kT_UR7lt36Ufy5LYfILTaz8JHvhyphenhyphen3-edqJjSjwOnDYNiPfrGzsU8l3-lXI2yMhWD/s320/board+with+treatment.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So then I ended up with this cool looking piece of wood. I couldn't just let it go at that. Soooo I decided to make a sign for my kitchen. Just a Sandie's kitchen or Mom's kitchen wouldn't quite get it. Since I live in the great state of Texas, I decided on a feed lot sign. I haven't ever seen one, but since I have three boys it is totally appropriate. So I googled cow images and came up with the cutest cow ever. So I drew it on and here it is in progress. He is cute isn't he??? I happen to love love love cows, so he was just what I wanted.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIDkN2JFcfV_X8YDsZ0b8qzTcr_BNlhk0SDj30LKZqEzheG5VF5O4opqvjJ4CGwkGXN87010AQSFR0ziHUWrAbyumjxMG57g4kNK2ihxhl_7ggcaGLZB-IZVkPPYYFlSn8Dm_kI8HfW20G/s1600/cowface.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIDkN2JFcfV_X8YDsZ0b8qzTcr_BNlhk0SDj30LKZqEzheG5VF5O4opqvjJ4CGwkGXN87010AQSFR0ziHUWrAbyumjxMG57g4kNK2ihxhl_7ggcaGLZB-IZVkPPYYFlSn8Dm_kI8HfW20G/s320/cowface.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><br />
Once I finished painting him, (Well, I didn't have any white paint. So we can pretend it's all painted right???? Who would have thought? No white?!?!? Crazy huh?) I need to do the lettering. I hate my handwritting, so my handy dandy Cricut to the rescue. I cut out the letters, and traced around them. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKpoZZTpqwCSel2DrIJ1Z1T1G6M_TOeXIvVz4av94_FpM5Bneso-pkkV8fapfpNnTdQ8gzaXU74b6ePNrwLFfg1xkY7dlwUrQqIwpYnZpbNBwgpgBcE9Bpp4OfYQC1vMvbWvGqK09kqb_j/s1600/arange+letters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKpoZZTpqwCSel2DrIJ1Z1T1G6M_TOeXIvVz4av94_FpM5Bneso-pkkV8fapfpNnTdQ8gzaXU74b6ePNrwLFfg1xkY7dlwUrQqIwpYnZpbNBwgpgBcE9Bpp4OfYQC1vMvbWvGqK09kqb_j/s320/arange+letters.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then I just painted them in and outlined them in black. I love the finished product. My poor buddy got about 100 text pictures during this project, but I just loved it more and more. So here is the finished sign.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmnvKRai-fZ7xCUcariTRoyntr1yGp_uGusziT4zl-CMesUKAqeQTT8s08Dx_wUbJiuMbse5MMycy4kcUi37njm9v5ANLG8r84PUauVPfJ59YuJyIh5urPM5c_ZK8urggZJ8PWc_JxHwuA/s1600/all+finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmnvKRai-fZ7xCUcariTRoyntr1yGp_uGusziT4zl-CMesUKAqeQTT8s08Dx_wUbJiuMbse5MMycy4kcUi37njm9v5ANLG8r84PUauVPfJ59YuJyIh5urPM5c_ZK8urggZJ8PWc_JxHwuA/s320/all+finished.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So all that was left was to hang it on the wall. It looks just perfect in it's new home. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

They have a fun concert that the kids all dress up for, have raffles and a silent auction. For the last three years my niece has been a part of their orchestra and I have always made something to donate. This year my sister had this cool chair she wanted to redo for the auction. She didn't know what to do exactly so she started with painting it in black and white. Then she dropped it off at my house. Of course I wasn't smart enough to take a real before picture. So here is the beginning picture. lol<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjVYgQL2VqaQ2IW58y1jKl1XBWKk2-25xUBhoYtqceGVkUqIqdtrKaz13p_AJ0wWhqYAyxbl3zLVPLzuoWSmeGBRt_KuN5Ofhs-miL4kV0H5stg07YgarsH_CvnZy17NzJh-F8SBE4u1BZ/s1600/almost+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjVYgQL2VqaQ2IW58y1jKl1XBWKk2-25xUBhoYtqceGVkUqIqdtrKaz13p_AJ0wWhqYAyxbl3zLVPLzuoWSmeGBRt_KuN5Ofhs-miL4kV0H5stg07YgarsH_CvnZy17NzJh-F8SBE4u1BZ/s320/almost+before.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Our mascot is the panther so some paw prints were in order. I just love using vinyl and my cricut. It doesn't get much easier. ;) I just cut them out and started placing them around the seat. The I cut a panther and the word Mojo for the backrest. I think the front looked pretty cool. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_7RaZuXuCTAuVZPJNiyGmC-PLDDePKSvn1HNwu9JOXUZflj-JTQ15jqfYYnAAC_YM6IiqESYqSFfVxZu5p3U7u3IZaMjkEaS_pmp8gZqXCQhC0p4SnSw0pNUbBuvRaAuy6m-kUyMBjyBw/s1600/front+of+chair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_7RaZuXuCTAuVZPJNiyGmC-PLDDePKSvn1HNwu9JOXUZflj-JTQ15jqfYYnAAC_YM6IiqESYqSFfVxZu5p3U7u3IZaMjkEaS_pmp8gZqXCQhC0p4SnSw0pNUbBuvRaAuy6m-kUyMBjyBw/s320/front+of+chair.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Now that the front looked so good the back needed a little love. So I went ahead and cut Permian Panthers to go across the back. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7OyMG7Fjt_Gsd0qbhJrZyc2eZ06tt6bv7rlvoIqXme5pcIP_1VcBVVX6dacYEAoXC-1ibjweWVgm4Vl5I6JAkjtyYlnCabbBVyQ4a5wgdkJv-jNxQoIoB_ADAFrW7HbgH3Wds6BSf9cIo/s1600/back+of+chair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7OyMG7Fjt_Gsd0qbhJrZyc2eZ06tt6bv7rlvoIqXme5pcIP_1VcBVVX6dacYEAoXC-1ibjweWVgm4Vl5I6JAkjtyYlnCabbBVyQ4a5wgdkJv-jNxQoIoB_ADAFrW7HbgH3Wds6BSf9cIo/s320/back+of+chair.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>It was a hit at the auction. I was glad they liked it. We helped earn a little extra for the orchestra. It was a win win right?? <br />

Finally my high matienance child Sam. We saw the movie Real Steel the week before this and he was sure the only thing he could be was NOISY BOY from the movie. So here is what Noisy Boy looks like just in case you havent seen the movie yet. He is the purple one. <br />

Pretty cute anyway. Right? The boys had a great time at their fall festival and brought home tons of candy. Just what we needed. So then Tues night my niece Tara had her annual Spooktacular Concert for orchestra. She is a senior and this concert is always lots of fun. It was kinda bittersweet, but oh so much fun. Tara won the cosutme contest in the Flamingo get up my sister made. She is better at coming up with costumes than I am I guess. LOL Tara looked awesome. <br />

Pretty cute huh? I only had my phone so the pics aren't the best but I think they are cute cute cute. Finally last night it was just me and the boys so we decided to go ahead and carve our pumpkins. Each of the boys had their own pumpkin and designed it however they wanted. Mom did her best to carve their creations. <br />

So I feel like such a loser when my list keeps longer and longer! I really need to get busy trying some of these wonderful ideas. So when I found the recipie for pumpkin butter, I decided I was totally making it. I adore anything pumpkin , and couldn't wait to feel the sense of accomplishment from making my own pumpkin butter. I wait anxiously every year for the Cracker Barrel to put it out. Now I will not have to wait anymore. <br />
I pinned this recipie about 2 weeks ago and it was fairly simple. It came from a fellow blogger at:<br />
<a href="http://www.shugarysweets.com/2011/10/pumpkin-butter.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ShugarySweets+%28Shugary+Sweets%29"> Shugary Sweets.</a> <br />
Her instructions seemed simple enough. <br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><strong>Pumpkin Butter Recipe</strong>:</span><br />
<div class="ingredients" style="margin: 0px 0px 20px; padding: 0px;"><div style="padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">29 oz can pumpkin puree</div><div style="padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">3/4 cup apple cider</div><div style="padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">1 cup sugar</div><div style="padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">1 cup brown sugar</div><div style="padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">1 tsp nutmeg</div><div style="padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">2 1/2 tsp cinnamon</div><div style="padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">1/2 tsp ground cloves</div><div style="padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">2 tsp ground ginger</div></div><br />
<div class="directions" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><div style="margin-bottom: 3px; padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">In large saucepan mix all ingredients together. On medium heat, bring mixture to a boil. Continue to simmer (on low-medium) heat for one hour, stirring occasionally.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 3px; padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;"></div><div style="margin-bottom: 3px; padding: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">Remove from heat and allow to cool. Pour into mason jars and refrigerate for 12-24 hours. Enjoy cold!</div><div>*note* Do not attempt to "can" this recipe as I know there are USDA/FDA/CNN/MSNBC/LOL rules about canning pumpkin. So just don't do it.</div><div></div><div>So I quickly gathered all the necessary items. :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipENaF7Q6imsS4AZOjEdmkFvhwxIJyR9y-mn0c5qGtlm02xW-FjgLoe69QO65aRbprmjCXYKO7o9D4vSfDE_1mtBsOVoNXgllKig2RYdz-S0B_T3-9zsSd0-VN13_l9c_UtrOOGthyphenhyphenJ_g5/s1600/supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipENaF7Q6imsS4AZOjEdmkFvhwxIJyR9y-mn0c5qGtlm02xW-FjgLoe69QO65aRbprmjCXYKO7o9D4vSfDE_1mtBsOVoNXgllKig2RYdz-S0B_T3-9zsSd0-VN13_l9c_UtrOOGthyphenhyphenJ_g5/s320/supplies.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div>I actually had it all on hand, but the cider. As I put the second coat of black on the end of the cabinets I knew it needed prayers in vinyl. I could see it all in my head. Well, I finally got the time to make it happen. So here are some of my favorite meal time prayers. <br />
<br />
First is the prayer we use all of the time. I didn't really know that other people didn't always use this prayer until I was about 13. It goes...<br />
COME LORD JESUS BE OUR GUEST, AND LET THY GIFTS TO US BE BLESSED.<br />
<br />
Second is a prayer that hangs in my Mother's kitchen to this day and I always loved. I thought it was quite the achievement when I was allowed to use it at the dinner table. It is...<br />
THANK YOU FOR THE WORLD SO SWEET, THANK YOU FOR THE FOOD WE EAT. THANK YOU FOR THE BIRDS THAT SING. THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING.<br />
<br />
Third is a prayer I found when I googled meal time prayers and loved. I am from German descent and thought it was awesome they had translated it in German also. So here it is in English, then German...<br />
ALL THAT WE HAVE ALLES DAS VIR HABEN<br />
IS A GIFT ALLES IS GERGEBEN<br />
IT COMES OH GOD FROM YOU ES COMT O GOTT VON DIR<br />
WE THANK YOU FOR IT WIR DANKEN DIR DAUFER<br />
<br />
The fourth and final prayer came from a friend and I just love it too. It says...<br />
LORD WE THANK YOU FOR THE FOOD BEFORE US, the friends beside us, THE LOVE BETWEEN US, AND YOUR PRESENCE AMONG US.<br />
<br />
I love the way they all look together I had a great time putting it all together. I hope you like it half as much as I do. <br />

Family meals have always been a part of my life. I remember very few times we didn't eat dinner all together around our dinner table growing up, and am doing my best to make sure my boys have that same experience. Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day.<br />

I love to go there and spend a few hours lost in painting. When we re-did the kitchen I of course NEEDED to make a platter to go with the new look. I guess the truth is it was much more of a wwwwaaaanted to make one, but ya know whatever works. LOL Anyway I wanted to use my favorite fabric as an inspiration. Just in case you forgot what it looks like here it is.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqL-veYkFiqgi36HWcYCW_BWimpkawTt_jDJAAypfOkwveG67sveuMpFZe9y2ksXWVcAaDjYt8_KEj05YVltFjH8WzQh1k7DSR0DlkRxvjpjlXcF41nCrDHv_OYbsrnE8Omc1lJKs5OdvD/s1600/DC4613_Sapphire.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqL-veYkFiqgi36HWcYCW_BWimpkawTt_jDJAAypfOkwveG67sveuMpFZe9y2ksXWVcAaDjYt8_KEj05YVltFjH8WzQh1k7DSR0DlkRxvjpjlXcF41nCrDHv_OYbsrnE8Omc1lJKs5OdvD/s320/DC4613_Sapphire.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>This is the same fabric my mother in law used to make my new curtains. I love love love it more everyday. I am so glad we went with bright colors in the new kitchen it has been fun. I have a few projects I am working on that when I finish them you will be the first to know, cause I am dying to share them with y'all. :)<br />
Ok soooo if I can focus for a minute I will show you the new platter I painted. Here is a quick before it's fired pic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguoxfwXwUfIiiTCRAX-sC98Ms_ZF1sy-DibfkyUj3SiANqwh8Ik9VxmCGDQM6iJzacIjUhTLPduKUtEjLy-oIMuMuaeGm-7BZYEor3Pqq-g0DCJwDXM4v_Cc73skpNsX2Dpjrm1Vhjgik2/s1600/img_0507_crop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguoxfwXwUfIiiTCRAX-sC98Ms_ZF1sy-DibfkyUj3SiANqwh8Ik9VxmCGDQM6iJzacIjUhTLPduKUtEjLy-oIMuMuaeGm-7BZYEor3Pqq-g0DCJwDXM4v_Cc73skpNsX2Dpjrm1Vhjgik2/s320/img_0507_crop.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div> It blows my mind how much the firing changes the look of the pottery. I was very excited with the finished product before firing and could hardly wait to pick it up. I guess Kim (the owner of the painted poppy) couldn't either because she texted me a picture before I could come to pick it up. ;) I was so excited. It turned out even better than I hoped. So without further ado... here it is!<br />
<br />

Gotta love Tuesdays<center><a href="http://nightowlcrafting.blogspot.com/"><img alt="NightOwlCrafting" border="0" src="http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g354/lesliejorgensen82/NightOwlCraftingwhobutton2.jpg" /></a></center><div style="color: #cc0000;"></div><div style="color: #cc0000;"></div><div style="color: #cc0000; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><b><u>Here are this week's questions! </u></b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #783f04; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">1. What are your favorite 3 things about fall?</span></div><div style="color: #783f04; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">I love the cooler temps. I live in TX so cooler means high in the 80's but I am thrilled to have it. I also enjoy getting back to the routine of it fall. With school starting and football practice I get into a routine and I love to have a regular routine. The best part about fall is the coming holidays. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas!!!! </span></div><div style="color: #783f04; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">2. Are you a football fan and if so who is your favorite team?</span></div><div style="color: #783f04; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">I love football. I graduated from Permian High School (yes, the Friday night lights school) so football is kinda a big deal. I love to watch my son play the most. He is only in pee wee football, but I love it. I guess my favorite team is "Da Bears". Well for now. I tend to pick favorite players and follow them. I know I am weird. LOL</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #783f04; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">3. What is your favorite fall scent?</span></div><div style="text-align: center;">Pumpkin pie spice. MMMMMM Yay for fall!</div><div style="color: #783f04; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">4. So you have seasonal allergies?</span></div><div style="text-align: center;">Yes Yes Yes! I am stuffed up this morning and will be for the next few months. </div><div style="color: #783f04; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">5. Have you started Christmas shopping yet?</span></div><div style="color: #783f04; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">LOL I start in Jan. I am one of those crazy people. I look for Christmas gifts all year round. I love to give the "perfect" gift not just a gift, and that just takes time. ;)</span></div>Sandiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14411313005117574279noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4565173078306590287.post-43365855979412811152011-09-06T13:40:00.003-05:002011-09-08T10:51:04.511-05:00Pickled Watermelon what???Periodically my Dad dreams up something he remembers fondly from his childhood. Sometimes we don't really believe his whole story (like that his grandmother making a WHOLE LAUNDRY BASKET FULL of sugar cookies), but he can usually talk me into most things. It's only fair since I drag him into all sorts of crazy projects all the time. :) So when I told him I was going to make Watermelon Jelly, he began telling me how much he missed pickled watermelon rinds. I was secretly grossed out, but I got on the ole computer and googled a recipe for Pickled Watermelon Rinds. I was amazed to find tons of different recipes. I decided this one sounded like one I thought I could handle. <a href="http://southernfood.about.com/od/picklesrelishes/r/blbb474.htm">Recipe Here</a><br />
<br />
I am still not convinced I want to eat it, but I think they turned out ok. They look pretty in the jar anyway. LOL So here is all the how to info. <br />
<br />
First gather the ingredients.<br />
<br />
<div class="ingredient">2 pounds prepared watermelon rind </div>1 teaspoon pickle crisp granules<br />
4 cups clear, distilled vinegar <br />
1 cup water <br />
5 cups sugar <br />
1 tablespoon whole allspice <br />
1 tablespoon whole cloves <br />
6 small pieces cinnamon stick <br />
<br />
<div class="ingredient"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguqMRZ300pIGqWbInTJBhRyKsCmYgyziFbApwk5R9uHm-2iaWoIRXASEbLJmIKz6bikFaTp6tgZhV-8-PkAY-3tQQwl52HWXwIXvft5hFNkxpwkIN82iCPhqPH5QHVJUOnugrsJjzCzvae/s1600/rind+supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguqMRZ300pIGqWbInTJBhRyKsCmYgyziFbApwk5R9uHm-2iaWoIRXASEbLJmIKz6bikFaTp6tgZhV-8-PkAY-3tQQwl52HWXwIXvft5hFNkxpwkIN82iCPhqPH5QHVJUOnugrsJjzCzvae/s320/rind+supplies.jpg" width="320px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then you start to prepare the rind.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Cover with cold water and boil for one hour or until tender. Then drain. Cover with one cup vinegar and two cups water and let stand overnight.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Then you drain it again, and prepare the syrup. You add the remaining vinegar, spices and sugars into a pan and bring to a simmer. Then you can pour the mixture into the jars. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiXJgHMtor1PAnv3q_ANskUXPS9Xlv4B_-Yb_3iSH6uaIQhZaC7FuvRiJuOxMt-HK8gTQT4AupO5spxqGHbwaFgom8kfzlazoeY-o3KfMju9agcmXcYzBvfYTfu1E4fMXo2XiWUAOE3ZFy/s1600/cook+rind+in+syrup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiXJgHMtor1PAnv3q_ANskUXPS9Xlv4B_-Yb_3iSH6uaIQhZaC7FuvRiJuOxMt-HK8gTQT4AupO5spxqGHbwaFgom8kfzlazoeY-o3KfMju9agcmXcYzBvfYTfu1E4fMXo2XiWUAOE3ZFy/s320/cook+rind+in+syrup.jpg" width="320px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The original recipe called for pickling lime, but I couldn't find that anywhere in town. I did find Ball's Pickle Crisp Granules. It is to be used as a substitute for pickling lime. You add 1/4 tsp of it to each jar. Easy peasy. Then you put the pickled rind into the jars, and seal them. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Finally you want to put them in a water bath for 15 minutes.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOkpMPoLFWQx5x_WZjlegBjBB3MySDpREGmQGO6BQWwVKxPOrvIFxSWr7sFd2Hl_wQCanGiYmuUZ2x14neXDE37tf68MZPKQFqTz6zvY5WUZ7EEneEpsef0D5Kvr8JIqq3ZFB4AbuFef0x/s1600/15+min+waterbath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOkpMPoLFWQx5x_WZjlegBjBB3MySDpREGmQGO6BQWwVKxPOrvIFxSWr7sFd2Hl_wQCanGiYmuUZ2x14neXDE37tf68MZPKQFqTz6zvY5WUZ7EEneEpsef0D5Kvr8JIqq3ZFB4AbuFef0x/s320/15+min+waterbath.jpg" width="320px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I was reusing some jars so please forgive the lovely lids. LOL</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When you are all done you end up with this. I really think they look good. I just had to try it. Of course I have pinned about a million things I want to try, but this one just stayed on my mind. So when my brother came to visit on Labor Day weekend and brought this HUGE (it weighed 40 lbs. I checked) watermelon I asked him if I could use some to make jelly. I pulled up the website's recipie. Here is the <a href="http://blondiescakes.blogspot.com/2010/09/watermelon-jam.html">link</a>, and got right to work. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong>First you need to gather your ingredients.</strong> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">6 C. pureeded Watermelon</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">5C. white sugar</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1/2 C bottled or fresh lemon juice</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1 pkg Pectin</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWJzMstmLP4vaEyJX3JRZUMKuTqHYgxNDTt4XM7hdx4vzlZ4l2rXwF4k4bXnJmtNqvC4pRamrZ6lU6K3AMYh4JsQouLeQsxIoU60MdmmwZSV_1tySdp2dBwNhwn2OUGaMpHO56sHJMj_nL/s1600/jelly+supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWJzMstmLP4vaEyJX3JRZUMKuTqHYgxNDTt4XM7hdx4vzlZ4l2rXwF4k4bXnJmtNqvC4pRamrZ6lU6K3AMYh4JsQouLeQsxIoU60MdmmwZSV_1tySdp2dBwNhwn2OUGaMpHO56sHJMj_nL/s320/jelly+supplies.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then I began to cut up the watermelon. It was HUGE so there was plenty to go around. I went ahead and doubled it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQDEn-fV1Jzio6SQfbuI9F6g4tXDxD8R5wwS8A7SkgSfqeI5ssCJ53pyyTvaQQQikBw1msORmoCB1XqFDUF5hddA-Z9exBHSgGbQguAnOsuFashPbORTksZLHRtvAdfKD7eVpfXR116mBB/s1600/cut+up+and+remove+seeds.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQDEn-fV1Jzio6SQfbuI9F6g4tXDxD8R5wwS8A7SkgSfqeI5ssCJ53pyyTvaQQQikBw1msORmoCB1XqFDUF5hddA-Z9exBHSgGbQguAnOsuFashPbORTksZLHRtvAdfKD7eVpfXR116mBB/s320/cut+up+and+remove+seeds.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It is important to remove all the seeds and then I just put the pieces in the blender and let it go. As it finished I measured it out into a large pot.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmcL5CSqw3J_zoiphhhs9W0hjN6BTDb7F0manJd_6O2WUACks1HbsXRDAgNal2l1hjy1bqsn2xwyxuIZjTWc-9lU7WR2J8VJoi1_aNni2lgtZGRlfX1dFJglHubxodMxsr9U3SfFFAGJUj/s1600/puree+watermelon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmcL5CSqw3J_zoiphhhs9W0hjN6BTDb7F0manJd_6O2WUACks1HbsXRDAgNal2l1hjy1bqsn2xwyxuIZjTWc-9lU7WR2J8VJoi1_aNni2lgtZGRlfX1dFJglHubxodMxsr9U3SfFFAGJUj/s320/puree+watermelon.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then you add sugar and lemon juice. It looks so pretty and has a kind of foam on top to start with. Then you are to bring it to a boil. Once my pot got close to boiling I nocticed a definate problem. The pan was not going to be big enough. Uh oh. So I switched to my HUGE stock pot. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNto5tWaBok7IFs8sUJf0dJNEiyNY7JTshyqSQK2CkOV2ZRQiWR1XU7u0kie67Udmgm77xVzS5v_24hDqXlJlUnX31FU1Ce7oC0iA3aOq-weLcswg60yuOa8o6LxoMzXWfRTV-LLRXq04B/s1600/bigger+pan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNto5tWaBok7IFs8sUJf0dJNEiyNY7JTshyqSQK2CkOV2ZRQiWR1XU7u0kie67Udmgm77xVzS5v_24hDqXlJlUnX31FU1Ce7oC0iA3aOq-weLcswg60yuOa8o6LxoMzXWfRTV-LLRXq04B/s320/bigger+pan.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It still boiled up pretty high in there. Once the temperature gets to 220 degrees you can add the pectin. Then it continues to boil for another five minutes. I would let it go longer. I had trouble with it thickening up so I had to put it on to boil again and so did the original poster. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Remove from heat and pour into clean, steril jars and then you can use a water bath to seal. I just made sure they cooled and put them in the fridge. I know they won't last as long but that is never a problem here. ;) It's one of the perks of having three GROWING boys. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1vAe2Qo6OUw1R5qTAN9maLmUTsVJnuJjbMdBVpk1rwWZ92l9chQIJS4Z2RaAGkjT_wjr3jYZtA2u5JtcQy7CarCDXnKq6zIlVFX3t2ZQ4lKmCyq2XUp_jR1bV5WC5wyVowLuonwhSJ_by/s1600/finished+jelly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1vAe2Qo6OUw1R5qTAN9maLmUTsVJnuJjbMdBVpk1rwWZ92l9chQIJS4Z2RaAGkjT_wjr3jYZtA2u5JtcQy7CarCDXnKq6zIlVFX3t2ZQ4lKmCyq2XUp_jR1bV5WC5wyVowLuonwhSJ_by/s320/finished+jelly.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><br />
<br />
When you are all finished you have these beautiful jars of jelly. I had various sizes but there were roughly 9 8oz. jars when I finished. Of course remember I doubled the recipie. If you decide to give it a try I would love to know. It is very good. Tastes just like watermelon. :)<br />

<br />
Here are my answers...<br />
1. What are some of your pet peeves?<br />
I absolutely hate to hear anyone begin a sentence with, "I don't mean to be rude, but..." To me this is just your way of warning someone I am about to unload all kinds of ugly all over you!!! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">2. Do you have a favorite or lucky number?<br />
I am not really all that into numbers. I guess if I were to pick one I would say 3 for my kids.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">3. What is one of your family traditions?<br />
My favorite tradition is that every year on Christmas Eve we all attend church together while Santa visits the house. It means a lot to me because it is the one time a year I get to go to church with my brother and sister's family and my parents.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">4. Is there anything you are OC about?<br />
I guess I am worst about lining things out for my kids. I always have clothes together , backpacks ready and anything else they might need the next day ready BEFORE I go to bed on any given night. <br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">5. What is your favorite kind of food?<br />
I love just good ole comfort food. Pot roast, chicken and dumplings, and mashed potatoes and gravy. You know all the stuff we aren't supposed to have. <br />
<br />
So go ahead click on the little icon and link up with your answers. I would love to know more about who you are too. </div></div>Sandiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14411313005117574279noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4565173078306590287.post-3420532095805645622011-08-21T23:24:00.008-05:002011-08-24T08:07:30.495-05:00Kissing Up never hurts right?Tomorrow morning is the first day of school. I am feeling as stressed actually probably more stressed than my boys. I have them all packed and ready for their first day. Their new clothes are laid out for them to jump into in the morning. I think we are all ready. I figure it can't hurt to send along a little something for their teachers right? I mean after all we are trying to start off on the right foot. I have three wonderful boys, BUT have I mentioned they are BoYs? Yes, they encompass all that means. They are silly, crazy kinds of busy, smarter than I ever imagined, and usually three of the sweetest people God dropped on the planet. So as Mom I decided to give them a little boost for the new year. I came up with these little babies.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyLQpetrsjdHDdRuFiE6Kfg9g6qKkKm60shdUueYab5PgxkKEwQVCjoDeTNeTGA4oKw5a5CEMtKdxXfmeeHWKmQU_SQbIXUXpyrRHAvrlU43Xh8lBOjsB-M7H82iGGqsReFkisHxhdXHOV/s1600/100_3341.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" qaa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyLQpetrsjdHDdRuFiE6Kfg9g6qKkKm60shdUueYab5PgxkKEwQVCjoDeTNeTGA4oKw5a5CEMtKdxXfmeeHWKmQU_SQbIXUXpyrRHAvrlU43Xh8lBOjsB-M7H82iGGqsReFkisHxhdXHOV/s320/100_3341.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Aren't they fun? OK, if you're wondering what in the heck these are I'll tell ya. They are post it note holders. Clever right? I think every teacher uses post it notes all the time. Wouldn't they look much prettier sitting on their desks like this? Yeah I thought so too. <br />
<br />
They are really easy too. First you cover the Top and Bottom of the front.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFOIy6k1yIY5od4orLHYjzTW0vuPXvuqD2wiUGGrvlzfzlni70HsKaATjcA2l4XBEqzoscLDUKA9PUuDUrGe6uwmWuUbpdNXb8SWJ_YjS7TBJ3gcirRdVIfswGwDtGU5ZXVS7zrSFTwFNG/s1600/IMG_1342.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" qaa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFOIy6k1yIY5od4orLHYjzTW0vuPXvuqD2wiUGGrvlzfzlni70HsKaATjcA2l4XBEqzoscLDUKA9PUuDUrGe6uwmWuUbpdNXb8SWJ_YjS7TBJ3gcirRdVIfswGwDtGU5ZXVS7zrSFTwFNG/s320/IMG_1342.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Then you cover the spine with a coordinating paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2tPwrQJARQnTX3wF-4hxIIGT7FXWLuUNvjT2MywAEIUnB97gnBuw8FMPaxU8ZuMII-MWWVhR2ZPYz1ubOOnbrHlw7G46YH_WQl4wS_Qouama4gZC_KGu8dfxJgr3onYnGu-DhnZrCzaz8/s1600/IMG_1344.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" qaa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2tPwrQJARQnTX3wF-4hxIIGT7FXWLuUNvjT2MywAEIUnB97gnBuw8FMPaxU8ZuMII-MWWVhR2ZPYz1ubOOnbrHlw7G46YH_WQl4wS_Qouama4gZC_KGu8dfxJgr3onYnGu-DhnZrCzaz8/s320/IMG_1344.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Then I used the spine paper to line the inside.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi2oh1Jn2zy7BFBEFnOXKTVUaYUypCC5Nnn2PhtGjBlDmHN8WnRJgXRXyrq3s0nesaAnfYQdaTAflamH5ZL2A1Dqc1w5GTHQ0ErghNiu7At4D5iTNKJ3V4ryLiZ6PITpyW7xzwLbAlGO5z/s1600/IMG_1345.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" qaa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi2oh1Jn2zy7BFBEFnOXKTVUaYUypCC5Nnn2PhtGjBlDmHN8WnRJgXRXyrq3s0nesaAnfYQdaTAflamH5ZL2A1Dqc1w5GTHQ0ErghNiu7At4D5iTNKJ3V4ryLiZ6PITpyW7xzwLbAlGO5z/s320/IMG_1345.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Then you add the post it notes inside and I put a monogram sticker on the outside.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimLp6iKOLJ4h3jqiFP_C6KAvOqF9e3qYheedHjSQYcSQEXExSQr6HjBj09TcQ1Ng548kW0yFQtlfY2_DM4xq-7PiLhXEhqec9edtkpVEdSGUUCP3ufKe9MyflcrXhN0Ik70QdlF75zF5kL/s1600/IMG_1347.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" qaa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimLp6iKOLJ4h3jqiFP_C6KAvOqF9e3qYheedHjSQYcSQEXExSQr6HjBj09TcQ1Ng548kW0yFQtlfY2_DM4xq-7PiLhXEhqec9edtkpVEdSGUUCP3ufKe9MyflcrXhN0Ik70QdlF75zF5kL/s320/IMG_1347.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>It was pretty simple. I had a blast making them. The possibilities are endless. I also added seed beads to some of them just for fun. :)<br />
<br />

I had tons of teacher to make them for so I took some smaller group pics so you can see them more clearly.<br />

She harassed me into blogging and we are crafting buds on a pretty regular basis. So I am asking no begging for you to head over to SYTYC and vote for her project. It is #8.<br />
If you have never heard of SYTYC, here’s an explanation from Missy, the host:<br />
<br />
SYTYC is a head-to-head crafting competition. Every 10 weeks a new group of crafters is selected. Each week the crafters are given a theme and YOU vote for your favorite. The winner makes a free tutorial and the loser gets ‘sent home.’<br />
I didn't realized the voting had already started so she only has till tomorrow night for everyone to pop over and vote if you do like her project. I have submitted my Halloween Scrapbook House. If you don't mind heading over to <a href="http://www.soyouthinkyourecrafty.com/2011/08/season-9-auditions/">So you think you're Crafty</a> and take a look at everyone and vote I would love it. They were for some of my favorite girls on the planet. I wanted to make something special for them. <br />
<br />
First up is Ava. She was turning two whole years old. She is the cutie pie I keep during the day, and her parents recently redecorated her room in Mickey Mouse. Her latest obsession. I have had these two canvas ideas for her room and I couldn't decide which one I wanted to do. So I did both.<br />

She always brought us several jars of jam when she would come. She always made rhubarb jam. It was cherry rhubarb or strawberry rhubarb, and it was ALWAYS delish! I have looked all over my little corner of Texas for some rhubarb jelly in vain. Most Texans don't even know what Rhubarb is and sound a little scared when you mention it. LOL So I knew if I wanted some I had to make it myself. Ok women have canned forever. All sorts of women. I know I can do this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxdQbmA77X-gCjaKW_HD9DtupLvjrMYRwWpgJ7KhlJKTMaw8O_CBSnIZjzPFGCkzfA8-h6OJPhLcXhopYY0suD4JLDVfJmvumYCVlUr3KVW6j0sTIqkyED4a33E5h7xNnkC82v5xlwwzE0/s1600/canning-button-026.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" naa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxdQbmA77X-gCjaKW_HD9DtupLvjrMYRwWpgJ7KhlJKTMaw8O_CBSnIZjzPFGCkzfA8-h6OJPhLcXhopYY0suD4JLDVfJmvumYCVlUr3KVW6j0sTIqkyED4a33E5h7xNnkC82v5xlwwzE0/s1600/canning-button-026.jpg" /></a></div>So I googled recipes. There were all sorts of recipes and lots of friends gave me advice. Usually in the form of some horror story of how they blew up this kind of jelly or that kind of jam all over the ceiling. It makes it kinda scary. I found a simple sounding recipe and decided to give it a try. Here is the link if you want to give it a try. <a href="http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Raspberry-Rhubarb-Jam">http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Raspberry-Rhubarb-Jam</a><br />
<br />
So I gathered all the supplies.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJIvjh4knhQCCs8o3Ym9YtJ6aLQXWrKvflBoUXK0wJUwziIbMH8HxOWFtyU9sU3etv-UUzCJs2tDGFFIijdebMJ6_3lNAVEmdXeB0LX4H99SXMt1XnlzP3gp27ZM_DgYtONsu9Ix9bcLkJ/s1600/100_3323.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240px" naa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJIvjh4knhQCCs8o3Ym9YtJ6aLQXWrKvflBoUXK0wJUwziIbMH8HxOWFtyU9sU3etv-UUzCJs2tDGFFIijdebMJ6_3lNAVEmdXeB0LX4H99SXMt1XnlzP3gp27ZM_DgYtONsu9Ix9bcLkJ/s320/100_3323.JPG" width="320px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
6 cups sliced fresh or frozen rhubarb<br />
<br />
<br />
4 cups sugar<br />
<br />
1 package (6 ounces) raspberry gelatin<br />
<br />
1 can (21 ounces) raspberry pie filling<br />
<br />
First you combine the sugar and rhubarb to set overnight. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ2H55r30Cr16aY2in4W0AyXtabs4EL7Ax25_GszPF9luK-PC01T3nmtgsvVd8IJ_Fn_Mi_GvmLLqUe9oQ1qMJUr-h1zrGwb9ditA3FoKYoep-bUvv6kUSTwIsS7wUuxOh41qRRt_dWbQp/s1600/100_3324.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239px" naa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ2H55r30Cr16aY2in4W0AyXtabs4EL7Ax25_GszPF9luK-PC01T3nmtgsvVd8IJ_Fn_Mi_GvmLLqUe9oQ1qMJUr-h1zrGwb9ditA3FoKYoep-bUvv6kUSTwIsS7wUuxOh41qRRt_dWbQp/s320/100_3324.JPG" width="320px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then you put that into a pan to simmer for thirty minutes or until the rhubarb is tender. I put my rhubarb in the blender so it wouldn't have large chunks and it worked well. I stirred pretty regularly.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOk2Au6KjL0iYC_YmBufpIVUHDtqaQQaKxMzaoXOiGoUB_BV39nFJAAvgD8gaVtO2ee1-Nlww26KKBhaeSY6muLAxFU1Uvrd8HTX2JMd_DJncBYo7rheGhx4nmTC0AxqIoEGKru6f1uL56/s1600/jelly+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" naa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOk2Au6KjL0iYC_YmBufpIVUHDtqaQQaKxMzaoXOiGoUB_BV39nFJAAvgD8gaVtO2ee1-Nlww26KKBhaeSY6muLAxFU1Uvrd8HTX2JMd_DJncBYo7rheGhx4nmTC0AxqIoEGKru6f1uL56/s320/jelly+001.jpg" width="240px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Then you add in the pie filling and jello powder. It darkened the mix quite a bit. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnteTAiXq0pZojK5ehtQx5JwXdCL9h3jpUqHb16cuknGG4XpoHIXXrBskLmU2ICFND0sfC_01OC7jOCvqwVcDWzzmS4J73-UkWqPoAoILWo-0eDa-hbSdLGKE76CUCcrNEc9CSWJxUdUgx/s1600/jelly+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" naa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnteTAiXq0pZojK5ehtQx5JwXdCL9h3jpUqHb16cuknGG4XpoHIXXrBskLmU2ICFND0sfC_01OC7jOCvqwVcDWzzmS4J73-UkWqPoAoILWo-0eDa-hbSdLGKE76CUCcrNEc9CSWJxUdUgx/s320/jelly+004.jpg" width="240px" /></a></div>Finally I used a canning funnel to pour it into jars. It came out beautifully. Just like I knew what I was doing. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimYzVy0_CBvlJ_hLFSPcZ_X7bUJlhar8zW8yDmXMubynCPJ2ATzclYSy9X7iU4j2i5EGQDrpvkOxwEJ-ODGIM_dfES12u_Fs7-qCJM5p2_m1Lyg7KAN4GiDUNTtYgbuinnAsLgGdYgtcDk/s1600/jelly+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320px" naa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimYzVy0_CBvlJ_hLFSPcZ_X7bUJlhar8zW8yDmXMubynCPJ2ATzclYSy9X7iU4j2i5EGQDrpvkOxwEJ-ODGIM_dfES12u_Fs7-qCJM5p2_m1Lyg7KAN4GiDUNTtYgbuinnAsLgGdYgtcDk/s320/jelly+005.jpg" width="240px" /></a></div> <br />
<br />
<br />
I got rave reviews. It was so easy and tasted better than I hoped. Of course we immediately started dreaming of things we could substitute. I tried peach rhubarb the very next day. It is such a pretty color, and tasted so good my dad said, "It should be illegal." LOL Dad is thrilled I am making jam. I guess I wasn't the only one who missed it. <br />

I love to make something personal for gifts. So I decided to etch a frame for them. I have made several, but wanted to do a tutorial so you can try it too. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8LgwOEiZfZ3vQZhrU5X3ingqK5Rhj5S0qnU74w-TZFBlzIkzM7aCcNBr7yH0CsW-eFb7qQ9HKywNzTsQIpEZ0FhJB4uwTklxptlGkF0dWzh3ocXanZ4N-Qqku4UGwaHtG7-6wPAyEyfC3/s1600/supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8LgwOEiZfZ3vQZhrU5X3ingqK5Rhj5S0qnU74w-TZFBlzIkzM7aCcNBr7yH0CsW-eFb7qQ9HKywNzTsQIpEZ0FhJB4uwTklxptlGkF0dWzh3ocXanZ4N-Qqku4UGwaHtG7-6wPAyEyfC3/s320/supplies.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>First you gather your supplies. You need a frame, vinyl, material, Armour Etch, transfer tape, and a paintbrush. <br />
<br />
Then you need to cut out your letters. I used my cricut. Any cut vinyl would work, you can use a Silhouette, or even cut it by hand. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilMaMxejTDggKiPXchtpXFMu7Ej177_Iiqnih19rTa2qYcB08NmzbVCFLVlC-V4jCoHPXXxXrU5V3ZNTrG9xOg2rBWGKO4_X5cCC7pCsWyLJFCaTn3-oKBpRLuXMjM-cBFHSRIiTKIWbFy/s1600/cut+the+name.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilMaMxejTDggKiPXchtpXFMu7Ej177_Iiqnih19rTa2qYcB08NmzbVCFLVlC-V4jCoHPXXxXrU5V3ZNTrG9xOg2rBWGKO4_X5cCC7pCsWyLJFCaTn3-oKBpRLuXMjM-cBFHSRIiTKIWbFy/s320/cut+the+name.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
You want to save the negative space. I used some extra burn orange vinyl, but you can use any color. It is just going to be thrown away. Then you use transfer tape to move it on to the glass. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBLWwkoS4lgdVDi5t4ydQLqWVuFUexGesweCd96xem_ijZsWsmzdvaqvvtEmPNr6y7FyWcGijcdUzIOwj9B2jDNuv1PCJCzqWRwS5a0PsRzZNsOcGznNqLIsKSHc0ubZnm2kt9C6-aKuyS/s1600/transfer+tape.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBLWwkoS4lgdVDi5t4ydQLqWVuFUexGesweCd96xem_ijZsWsmzdvaqvvtEmPNr6y7FyWcGijcdUzIOwj9B2jDNuv1PCJCzqWRwS5a0PsRzZNsOcGznNqLIsKSHc0ubZnm2kt9C6-aKuyS/s320/transfer+tape.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The transfer tape keeps all the letters in the shape they are intended to be in. Once you remove the tape you are ready to brush on the etching cream. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhghALL0rafr4hSU9cMhHTybakecgGoiwVcfDOSQI8DUyLG7tlZKBl16zbWkPVvM-2gdh-xyawWq1Z33QKaKQ0l-z3EX6yK_CcEnBrdzWXHHdQyMhKjgmytkY0vsB-hHLnHOrx2Hk2Cth87/s1600/brush+on.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhghALL0rafr4hSU9cMhHTybakecgGoiwVcfDOSQI8DUyLG7tlZKBl16zbWkPVvM-2gdh-xyawWq1Z33QKaKQ0l-z3EX6yK_CcEnBrdzWXHHdQyMhKjgmytkY0vsB-hHLnHOrx2Hk2Cth87/s320/brush+on.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
You need a pretty thick coat. When you get all the blank spots covered you want to let it sit for about 15 minutes. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQaVhmmq_V6hAoRb0Qc62Z4ZTiWflWn1BIoFZqhqGvXneLzGccz4kxn53qhIs0CXFbKhnurByDqRmgiK8fCHrac2BR4ADBYX5RYbd36jYJbOiBLdwXVemzoXELggYh8QagN85-xfCdbbYf/s1600/rinse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQaVhmmq_V6hAoRb0Qc62Z4ZTiWflWn1BIoFZqhqGvXneLzGccz4kxn53qhIs0CXFbKhnurByDqRmgiK8fCHrac2BR4ADBYX5RYbd36jYJbOiBLdwXVemzoXELggYh8QagN85-xfCdbbYf/s320/rinse.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Now you are ready to rinse. I usually try to have a pretty high powered stream of water and then I just rub of any remaining etching cream. You want to be sure to continually rinse so the cream doesn't accidentally etch a place you didn't intend. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdaEANVzmJQZGCAXL5kP0bxPVb8rw-LBXJ1ef-snm4vgeniPgEU8uoGn-spvLcIk7XI7mZwt1oMr5tpKPXo0qQ6Gb-TMWw2iQtTLfyqLShqTO2gfSCzZBt-Gb7CTHPPdQ8Zy_Z0eoKGC0V/s1600/then+you+get.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdaEANVzmJQZGCAXL5kP0bxPVb8rw-LBXJ1ef-snm4vgeniPgEU8uoGn-spvLcIk7XI7mZwt1oMr5tpKPXo0qQ6Gb-TMWw2iQtTLfyqLShqTO2gfSCzZBt-Gb7CTHPPdQ8Zy_Z0eoKGC0V/s320/then+you+get.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now you can remove the vinyl. As you can tell the letters etched rather nicely. I usually go ahead and clean the glass with Windex at this point. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD_qVRHv9nvDkqOYTjmnwsC5SxuI-xKnnn6hkL8juQGVVK3VMl9m4pySHthAnUlzI1x2cr-y8tPra9PuYYyp1UGB0Va4qR_tPvpwJDZ4oRnWYyW4SZNIskxnYtZM1bZo5L6m9B1iVBMppr/s1600/Ryan+and+Stephanie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD_qVRHv9nvDkqOYTjmnwsC5SxuI-xKnnn6hkL8juQGVVK3VMl9m4pySHthAnUlzI1x2cr-y8tPra9PuYYyp1UGB0Va4qR_tPvpwJDZ4oRnWYyW4SZNIskxnYtZM1bZo5L6m9B1iVBMppr/s320/Ryan+and+Stephanie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Then I chose the font to cut their names and date with. I then added the fabric to the back of the frame. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFibSUDDF4jIfDiXEk6FRnVxGrdYIIRJFdPJkbpkpTFvasrGIxJgAqPBLzPioC1Pp_ckZZ4otwmhi83dyPrmt7t8Ez8I-_VAV0VOPwR_saGMZ63oIgfrXfdIetizauUhShX03ibCwOxL3E/s1600/cut+the+fabric.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFibSUDDF4jIfDiXEk6FRnVxGrdYIIRJFdPJkbpkpTFvasrGIxJgAqPBLzPioC1Pp_ckZZ4otwmhi83dyPrmt7t8Ez8I-_VAV0VOPwR_saGMZ63oIgfrXfdIetizauUhShX03ibCwOxL3E/s320/cut+the+fabric.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I just trimmed it to fit and used a very light layer of Mod Podge to keep it in place. Then you just put it all together. I used transfer tape once again to put their names on the frame. I think it turned out great. I hope they love it too. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

So here are a few pics of the finished but not yet decorated product. :)<br />
<br />
First I took two befores.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivxYX9XtC9lBq-j5HlxGqKIUbi1NFjrY0b1NrLr_DC1PoHMbL_E5PLEx1d0pmAjfmLhG6Wj1sQCG84oXEtC4tdiOhnVUZtDcTfSqoHI7RwM1hDlsuAeSqCawRq1Eb4HQlTKLCKIoK72536/s1600/before+sink.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivxYX9XtC9lBq-j5HlxGqKIUbi1NFjrY0b1NrLr_DC1PoHMbL_E5PLEx1d0pmAjfmLhG6Wj1sQCG84oXEtC4tdiOhnVUZtDcTfSqoHI7RwM1hDlsuAeSqCawRq1Eb4HQlTKLCKIoK72536/s320/before+sink.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

I just used my iphone as we went along, but I think you can get the idea.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM8hay5eMoxhAj887DrcZ0IPsfvILWnIZ-TioYz0wgZCKBP_zi5oRcEUO2Psd6bWsyU56sO6GUnRRlBhGfEAdAPZvFilwiXi7Wz1HaNJinraWCiEP_8BqVnImmK0wY2JbHDWN1tc42e_wZ/s320/demo1.jpg" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">First we tore out the old cabinets and sanded down the ones we were keeping. As all projects go we found some unexpected nasty sheet rock. So of course we got to replace it. Then we went ahead and added in the new cabinets. Tiled the backsplash. I know I already blogged about it, but here is one more pic just for fun.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRGmjGFDJZb8FfVyr9Q15yrPgAp7WIHw18znOX0xw2vZ-WLVzVwA3j7uTGI_yJIIeIBOl5lLQGCU_HlfeoXYbSeSApdLkq44S5lyd5_3-8fxrLC1YwI-yOpgeTCtow6Q7ElyFb5Kl3odUK/s1600/final+tile.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRGmjGFDJZb8FfVyr9Q15yrPgAp7WIHw18znOX0xw2vZ-WLVzVwA3j7uTGI_yJIIeIBOl5lLQGCU_HlfeoXYbSeSApdLkq44S5lyd5_3-8fxrLC1YwI-yOpgeTCtow6Q7ElyFb5Kl3odUK/s320/final+tile.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>I love the way the pattern came out. So pretty! My hubby and Dad did an awesome job! <br />
<br />
So anyway here are the mostly finished pics. I am sure you will see some more projects soon. <br />

She added the funniest post about what is on her nightstand, and I decided to play along. So true confessions, here is a picture of my nightstand:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgleAQA8f4IQ8srTKIksfrU-_OUPfXcU204dCOnnRog50YPXaqlEQwYD2_cpOgedIA_Sn86atuBTjFysIBkmFHiiyXRfP5-_cf62mXKJ7-s2op6GOJOA_6vWVHf4Bakh0OXoa2MwXXIW1jb/s1600/nightstand.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgleAQA8f4IQ8srTKIksfrU-_OUPfXcU204dCOnnRog50YPXaqlEQwYD2_cpOgedIA_Sn86atuBTjFysIBkmFHiiyXRfP5-_cf62mXKJ7-s2op6GOJOA_6vWVHf4Bakh0OXoa2MwXXIW1jb/s320/nightstand.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>I have a horrible habit of working on projects late at night. My hubby is usually at he computer desk in our room so I end up using my poor nightstand. I have on it tonight...<br />
The phone actually on the charger<br />
A box of recipes (this is for a Christmas project I have been working on)<br />
My Twilight Books (I am totally Team Edward and totally addicted!)<br />
You will notice I have a stack of papers on top of that it includes...<br />
the school supply lists for my boys<br />
misc. papers from registration<br />
the new Entertainment Weekly magazine (it's the Hunger Games edition YAY!)<br />
a mother's day card<br />
another cookbook<br />
lotion<br />
a bag of supplies for Polish Christmas stars (I will do a post on those sometime in the near future)<br />
and last but not least my alarm clock<br />
Oh yeah and a nice layer of dust from sanding down the cabinets in the kitchen remodel (I have reclaimed some of our house but our room is last on the list)<br />
<br />
So feel free to play along. If you do please share the link! I would love to see what's on your nightstand... well, unless it is much cleaner than mine. ;)Sandiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14411313005117574279noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4565173078306590287.post-85823531624836078202011-08-06T21:23:00.004-05:002011-08-09T09:18:51.835-05:00The black grout experimentYes I can hear you saying it already. Black grout what are you thinking?!? I love the look of black grout. So when we decided to redo our kitchen, I immediately thought of doing the back splash with black grout. First I looked at tile EVERYWHERE we went. I noticed how often restaurants all over town have done the same. I was even more convinced as I saw more different kinds of tile with it. So when I went tile shopping I have to confess I felt very overwhelmed. My hubby told me I could choose whatever tile I liked. Well I like lots of different kinds of tile. I found tons of beautiful choices, but here is what I fell in love with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpsd4aNXRSN67q_opHIQmYGfzJEOjrdLYhVQTIheRVdEyKAUxQfeU0-sTUjZrIBlkwC-Hs0rxlDZ1FvPgWmZUt_g8NyOW26ItxgXLhCUMflxf3Ehyphenhyphen8-lorLsdOUfjKOI_YaCFOaNCtF2nl/s1600/img_1159.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpsd4aNXRSN67q_opHIQmYGfzJEOjrdLYhVQTIheRVdEyKAUxQfeU0-sTUjZrIBlkwC-Hs0rxlDZ1FvPgWmZUt_g8NyOW26ItxgXLhCUMflxf3Ehyphenhyphen8-lorLsdOUfjKOI_YaCFOaNCtF2nl/s320/img_1159.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
A beautiful copper glass and venetian stone combo. Pretty right?<br />
<br />
At this point we were just getting started because now we had to decide what design we wanted to do. There are lots of possible combinations when you have 4 in and 3/4 in tiles to work with. After lots of suggestions and tons of pro and con discussions. We chose to put the tile on the bias and cut out a square for four of the copper tiles. Here is what it looks like before the grout.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUH0CVDDmVSdGXMPmu2mrbym6LeyjtYuLz-hkqSyUvzEVdThyphenhyphenvSab7GnDds2Ihbtv_8ASNcrRvonGWSX7ObZKgYuXV3LyYg899qLlJgzsPfbgYlMz3nYvCDoX3LDXv8Mgnk8AOqo1f2BSd/s1600/tile+above+sink+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUH0CVDDmVSdGXMPmu2mrbym6LeyjtYuLz-hkqSyUvzEVdThyphenhyphenvSab7GnDds2Ihbtv_8ASNcrRvonGWSX7ObZKgYuXV3LyYg899qLlJgzsPfbgYlMz3nYvCDoX3LDXv8Mgnk8AOqo1f2BSd/s320/tile+above+sink+before.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then we decided to do a little something different over the stove.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhM7tb3rCCUQfhkJfrpAUgX7nV6x3fqnR6d7qdl5qwpnJrHDQRbvc1BPBnxRQtLCQRzBt2BBG9jzEw-KdNkxZ8snkJBHbN2St_WdoAQGpW0putgga6UfZCka7ohyH5Qjonikdyipv1JoWY/s1600/stove+tile+b4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhM7tb3rCCUQfhkJfrpAUgX7nV6x3fqnR6d7qdl5qwpnJrHDQRbvc1BPBnxRQtLCQRzBt2BBG9jzEw-KdNkxZ8snkJBHbN2St_WdoAQGpW0putgga6UfZCka7ohyH5Qjonikdyipv1JoWY/s320/stove+tile+b4.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><br />
When we got the grout over the tile, I wasn't too sure the tile wouldn't be ruined. It was a little intimidating to see it all covered in black. Those stone pieces were pretty light in color. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3bYSUPOQk2I7PHrfxa7SIXBythk5g9dz11mPOBULUko0Yhe7ljF2BFGQFyH3SqEH5Ch2XDfGzdlUBqbNaWs2mBeSxv07zPsgjbIQnKPo1vge_RFNFiO5PpF3gWB4jSq2YVBSWr4aBJheu/s1600/black+grout.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3bYSUPOQk2I7PHrfxa7SIXBythk5g9dz11mPOBULUko0Yhe7ljF2BFGQFyH3SqEH5Ch2XDfGzdlUBqbNaWs2mBeSxv07zPsgjbIQnKPo1vge_RFNFiO5PpF3gWB4jSq2YVBSWr4aBJheu/s320/black+grout.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
So we started scrubbing.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd6EWzrqB0BTo_PBfHGZV1jWNMiunb_G9FqPpG2QMk4DytrVWFDWVLEaiVUrmEzz4iz-8B2JVLQKRXvd_oEXOmkZ57KuLviagWol6la1E3PIN2FS-5tqFwA9GAE-d7jNFwpqtjM8547G_J/s1600/washing+off.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd6EWzrqB0BTo_PBfHGZV1jWNMiunb_G9FqPpG2QMk4DytrVWFDWVLEaiVUrmEzz4iz-8B2JVLQKRXvd_oEXOmkZ57KuLviagWol6la1E3PIN2FS-5tqFwA9GAE-d7jNFwpqtjM8547G_J/s320/washing+off.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It looks like a hot mess, but it really was pretty manageable. When we finished scrubbing this is what we had.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I absolutely adore the new back splash and think it ties in beautifully with the counter top and black cabinets. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC2PF035fCfbUAqDX4cYIVTPxAd5ZfLLq8s8_3COHiywVLNrKZz7PjWjuLCllus7hY3KJ9htnvgXhwP3Mn2cOiHKQZrITLrrlt9CgkDgKJ-6xY-P1kqWPVSf82b1K1f4MOeYr36MgdaPEw/s1600/dividers+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC2PF035fCfbUAqDX4cYIVTPxAd5ZfLLq8s8_3COHiywVLNrKZz7PjWjuLCllus7hY3KJ9htnvgXhwP3Mn2cOiHKQZrITLrrlt9CgkDgKJ-6xY-P1kqWPVSf82b1K1f4MOeYr36MgdaPEw/s320/dividers+before.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I bought these colorful ones, but it wasn't quite happy with that. I wanted more than this so I pulled out my handy dandy scrapbook paper and a little mod podge, and this is what I came up with. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPXoZsRBiBpYWSoWRHwzKLuhy0R9o-KrHnNzg3Gj6-jVOKELUp_tRy3WxZVAbop_U_lIAU4KlveO6VusZ8_9upSPJN-osgEbD92WGR3iXc4D4HL-CLRo6YffUdy_rkeY3M8wQLEiNXiJLj/s1600/diiders.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPXoZsRBiBpYWSoWRHwzKLuhy0R9o-KrHnNzg3Gj6-jVOKELUp_tRy3WxZVAbop_U_lIAU4KlveO6VusZ8_9upSPJN-osgEbD92WGR3iXc4D4HL-CLRo6YffUdy_rkeY3M8wQLEiNXiJLj/s320/diiders.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>I am much happier with these. Lots of fun. If I had any pink in this house of blue, I think it would be fun to do with school binders too, but alas I only have boys. LOL I think they wouldn't appreciate the extra zebra print in their lives quite like I do. Anyway super simple and fun if you want to send your darlin' back to school with pizazz.<br />
